A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost Story of Christmas was written and published on the 19th December 1843. Christmas in this period was under going a transformation into what would be recognizable today. Influenced by this trend, Charles Dickens wrote his novella, which in itself would become a christmas tradition. A Christsmas Carol is the best known of Dicken's Christmas stories, he would write another four until his death in 1870. In 1849 due to the sucess of the story he began public readings every year until 1870, by which time he had read the story to delighted crowds 127 times.
